16 2026 | The Hill Visitor’s Guide & Business Directory Il Pensiero By Carina A. Marino Il Pensiero,“The Thought,” is an Italian American newspaper distributed on The Hill. For more than 120 years it has been an important link between Italian immigrant families and their native land and language. It was established in 1904 by Luigi Carnovale; he was succeeded by Cavaliere Giovanni Cottone until his death in 1917. It was then edited by Dr. Cesare Avigni, who increased the size and appearance of the newspaper. It is the only bilingual newspaper in the State of Missouri. Since 1967, Cavaliere Antonino Lombardo has published it, and since 2018, he has been publishing it with his granddaughter, Carina Marino.Together, they capture the most important information, keeping the Italian heritage alive. Its pages include local events, birthdays, anniversaries, obituaries, and Italian news from across the U.S. and in Italy. It serves as an outlet for not only organizations but also individuals to have a voice. Many restaurants, delis, businesses, and community establishments, especially on The Hill, carry Il Pensiero, a free publication.
