Because of her philanthropic and public interest in the Devonshire community, the school board named the school Susan R. Buder School (now Buder Elementary School). One of her sons served on the Library Board and in his mother’s memory donated $5,000 to open a branch library at the school. This library served the school’s students and was open to the public for 39 years until relocating. (Now you know the reason the word “Library” is over a now-closed door on the school’s Lansdowne Avenue side.)
