10 2026 | SOHA Community Directory Join Your Neighbors... Neighbors have been involved in the success of Southampton since the very beginning of development in 1902. In March of 1903, the association was formed to encourage residents to plant grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, and vines. Joining the Southampton Neighborhood Association and working with your neighbors became ingrained in the fabric of the community from the very beginning. All of us—residents, businesses, schools and churches—want Southampton to be a success. That happens by joining others. Does this approach work? On Nov. 1, 2021, city officials announced that the public could provide testimony on proposed ward redistricting on Nov. 2 and 3. Despite this short notice, the association was able to prepare its own testimony and gather neighbors (members and non-members) to send in testimony by email or phone. The densely populated Southampton neighborhood with an active association was split across three wards—unlike any other city neighborhood—which presented challenges in coordinating different wards and aldermen. What happened? On Nov. 9, Southampton was shown on the proposed ward redistricting map as being completely in Ward 5. A member of the city redistricting committee remarked, “Southampton was very adamant...a whole lot of comments came in about Southampton and them wanting to be consolidated into one neighborhood, one ward…so this recommendation we were able to accommodate.” Having a strong voice for our neighborhood matters. Consider keeping our voice strong by joining the Southampton Neighborhood Association. We work diligently to keep you informed and provide collective advocacy for the neighborhood residents and businesses who call Southampton home.
