Lindenwood Park Directory 2026
2026 | Lindenwood Park Community Directory 44 LPNA Community Garden & Wabash Flower Garden 2025 End-of-Season Wrap Up • Our Lindenwood Park Neighborhood Association (LPNA) Community Garden is located behind St. Michael Universal Church of Peace, one block from Epiphany of Our Lord Church, near the corner of Leola and Smiley avenues. • In-kind donations covered most of our expenses. This year we received a Seed St. Louis community garden expansion grant for the 2025 garden season. They supplied us with wood to repair nearly all of our 33 raised beds and a new 3-bin compost system at crazy low prices. Not only that but they delivered the wood and a pre-built compost system (very little assembly required) and two of their staff provided us three hours of free labor. On April 22, many of our garden members and two Seed St. Louis staff replaced wood in 22 of our raised beds. It was amazing. • Our gardeners sometimes plant produce beyond the traditional varieties. Garden Leaders attended a Seed St. Louis event where we learned about the Reverend Morrow’s Long Keeper. This tomato stays fresh for a long time in storage for winter. You can have fresh tomatoes long after the growing season. They will stay ripe for 6-12 weeks so you may have ripe tomatoes all year long. We also discussed the benefits of Water Chestnuts and Taro which is like a potato. • We grow vegetables and flowers in the raised beds and help maintain eight flowerbeds, so we have a lot to offer pollinators. We had an impressive harvest to show for all our hard work. We continue to share our harvest with rabbits, squirrels, other gardeners, the Senior Activity Center on Arsenal, and others. • To become a community gardener in 2026, our members will continue to pay a small annual fee ($10) for the growing season, maintain their raised-bed plot and contribute to garden maintenance. We also encourage them to help keep the church property clean because through St. Michael’s generosity we use their land free of charge. Our community garden is sponsored by Seed St. Louis so our members can purchase seeds packets and seedlings at ridiculously low prices and take advantage of any sponsored programs and classes. It has been transformed from a place frequented by homeless encampments to a garden full of Missouri native perennials that support birds, bees, butterflies, and our other garden critters. It has provided color to this part of our neighborhood for many to enjoy. Milton Murry and Sharon Panian will no longer be able to care for this garden. Health problems mean less energy and time to provide the necessary garden maintenance to keep it going. Please let us know if you know of anyone willing to contribute to its maintenance. For any information regarding Wabash Flower Garden please contact wabashgarden@ lindenwoodpark.org . Please come by and visit to watch our gardens grow.
